Housing
We're figuring out which of the policy changes within this toolkit would be best to advocate for.
Lessening requirements for multi-family homes (duplex, triplex, quadplex) in the TNR zoning district
In TNR there's a 5000sqft lot size minimum for a single-family home and 9600sqft minimum for a duplex. It doesn't make as much sense to build a duplex when you could build two single family homes instead. 9600sqft is also 4600sqft more than the 5000sqft requirement in MDR (the only other zoning district that has a minimum lot size for a duplex).
Transportation
Bike Parking Map
We're still gathering data to collaborate with the City of Holland on a bike parking map
Bike parking in parking garages
We've been approved for a bike parking spot at the 7th Street parking deck! We're figuring out the logistics for that and hoping to get one in the 9th Street parking deck as well.
Encouraging active transportation during Tulip Time
Parking is a pain! We want more people to experience the joy of biking, walking, and taking other forms of active transportation.
We plan to do some more data driven audits in the Spring, Summer, and Fall especially for corridors that are planned for redevelopment.
Spreading the Word
Active Transportation for Tulip Time Poster
We're working on this now! Keep your eyes out for posters around the city.
Yard signs (Strong Towns Holland)
We've just begun thinking about this project. This would be a great way for members to show their neighbors they want positive change in Holland.
Book display at local book stores and HDL
This would be a fun way to work with local bookstores and provide the opportunities for education to the community.
Volunteering
Neighborhood Cleanup
Volunteer through the parks department
Building Community
Book Club
There's a ton of fantastic books with Strong Towns themes, and even a few Strong Towns books! This would be a great way for members to learn more about what Strong Towns is really all about.
Bike/Walk in movie theatre
Drive-in movie theaters are fun, and we think that biking or walking to an outdoor movie could be just as much, or more fun!
Climb Night
Scrapyard Climbing Collective is our local gym here in the City of Holland and a fantastic example of a strong community! Climbing is a great way to bond and step outside of our comfort zone. A bonus is that the manager of Scrapyard Climbing is a member of our group!
